SMECO Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP) Overview
The Winter season means higher energy usage and higher energy bills for residential homes.
SMECO offers their customers the Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP) to save energy and money.
With the SMECO HEIP, qualifying customers can save up to $700 in HVAC services from an approved HVAC service provider.
Southern Pride Service is honored to be an approved SMECO HVAC contractor and offers the following services for free:
HVAC Tune-Up
SMECO is the only utility in Maryland offering free HVAC tune-ups. Tune-up with minor corrections include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Outdoor coil cleaning, as accessible
- Verify optimal condition of coil structure
- Verify electrical connections for safe operating conditions
- Inspect and verify expansion valve and coil temperatures
- Clean or replace air filter (customer must provide)
- Check refrigerant level
- Check condensate drain for blockage or debris, clear if necessary
Qualifying Systems:
- Heat pumps
- Air conditioners (spring & summer time only)
Value of $230.00 In HVAC Service Fees
SMECO Approved Thermostats
If you are interested in switching to a smart thermostat, you can get a $100 instant rebate for qualifying models and no-cost installation (limit 3 per household).
To receive the $100 thermostat rebate through the HEIP program, a Honeywell Thermostat must be purchased and installed by a SMECO-approved installation contractor.

- Honeywell T6Pro 3h/2c

How To Qualify
Here are the requirements needed to qualify for the SMECO Home Energy Improvement Program:
Must be a current SMECO customer
Customers name must be on SMECO account
Must have an electric unit (Heat Pump, AC)
